Turning the Tables

I offer this blog all year as a free gift of inspiration, challenge, and encouragement to you. There are only a couple of times a year I turn the tables and invite you to take any action to partner with me. Actually, to be blunt, I’m going to ask you to give your first Christmas gift of the season.

As we are all about to take part in Thanksgiving, I want to invite you to join me in what has become a tradition for my ministry. Two years ago, I joined forces with my old friend, Andy Perkins of Bestwa, to build a feeding center in Buchanan, Liberia, Africa. The rural area there had hundreds of children who were literally starving. Fast-forward to today where 320 children are fed daily and provided with medical care. Lives have been saved and keep being saved.

Around Christmas, we set aside a special day for each child to receive a new set of clothes and a pair of shoes. For most, this is the only time of year they receive anything, much less new clothing. The center also provides a special Christmas meal during this celebration.

The cost per child is $10. Yes, just ten bucks. And here’s the part I love—all the money goes to buy the clothes and meal. No one is taking out any “administrative cost” and nothing has been added for any other purpose.

The total needed is $10 X 320 children—$3,200. A businessman in Texas has given the seed gift of $1000 to provide for 100 children, leaving 220 kids or $2,200.

Whether you help one child or 100, here’s what I really want for you—on Christmas morning, amidst the paper and boxes and bows, just for a moment, remember these kids in Liberia who are wearing new clothes on the other side of the world because of you, because you follow Christ, the King. I bet if they could, they’d hug you to say thank you.

My regular article will be back next week with only a brief update for this project at the bottom. May God bless you as we begin this Christmas season, starting with giving thanks for all we have.

“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’—Matthew 25:37-40 NLT
