So, I’m betting if you are anything like me, you are wondering where this year went and amazed at how fast it flew by as we stand at the doorstep of December.
What are you going to give yourself for Christmas? … Allow me to explain.
Rewind for a moment back to January. Recall those “this year I’m going to start” and “this year I’m going to stop” and “this is going to be the year that I finally [fill in the blank.]”
What if instead of just feeling guilty and frustrated in about 5 weeks when you play that tape in your head yet again and tell yourself those sweet and hopeful lies again, instead you wrote down a couple of those “need to,” “want to,” and “I really should” things and started them this final month of 2016?
What if you could end the year feeling great about yourself because this year, even if it was down to the wire, you did start that thing or you did stop that other thing or you finally … finally … began to …. ?
What if you rolled into 2017 with a month under your belt of a new habit or hobby or hope or you even got started on the hard work of that dream of yours?
Now, if you immediately think, “Well, but Christmas, right here at the Holidays and all. Not good timing. Too much going on.” Isn’t that attitude what stopped you back in January? Didn’t you think something like, “Just let me get settled into this year and then I will …?” And then the rest is history, as they say.
News flash—there’s never going to be the perfect time for change.
Here’s another angle on this touchy topic. What would Jesus like from you this year for His birthday? He doesn’t need a new robe or a gift card, but what always fits Him perfectly is our obedience. Especially when you least expected to commit.
No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. —Hebrews 12:11 NLT
*Buchanan Christmas Celebration Update: Last week gifts came in covering 210 of the children at $10 per child—$2100 of the $3200. Thanks to the 7 men who gave from $20 to $1000 to make this happen. There’s 1 week left. You may give your tax deductible gift by clicking here.
