Out Through the In Door

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. — 1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT

It seems like we often think God should swoop down and grab us by the arm like Superman and carry us to safety when we’re tempted. Like right before we sin would be good. Being honest, we can even get angry with Him for not literally removing us from our temptation and sin. From the situation we hurt ourselves in over and over.

While there are times in God’s mercy and grace, because he will not “give us more than we can stand,” He will remove us or the temptation. But if He regularly took this action, God would be removing the free will He blesses us with on a daily basis.

Instead, God is continually saying to us, “Yes, you have a choice. That or Me.”

His love as a Father constantly draws us to choosing Him over “that” because He wants us to love Him more than “that.” It’s His heart to let His children choose, but His heart wants us to choose Him.

Today’s verse has a major point we often miss … “He will show you a way out.” “There is the door away from “that,” leading to Me. Your call.”

It doesn’t say He will lead us out. It says He will show us the door to “out.” Then wait for us to choose.

Maybe it would be a wise, and possibly new, tactic to stop looking at the temptation and sin and start looking for the door God is pointing to.

It is standing at the same place, but looking from a new perspective.
