The Triple A of Faith

In the famous and familiar story of David and Goliath, there are three important principles we can take away today.

1—David was faithful to his assignment.

Early in the morning David left the flock in the care of a shepherd, loaded up and set out, as Jesse had directed. —1 Samuel 17:20 NIV

His dad had him in the field, often alone, tending to the sheep. But then changed his assignment to taking food to his brothers on the battlefield. Of course, it was actually God assigning him to each task. Training as a shepherd and time alone with God prepared him for what was to come as warrior and king.

2—David was faithful to his authority.

David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.” —1 Samuel 17:32 NIV

He had done what his dad asked him to do and now was submitting to the king. Life was about to go from very private to quite public. Understanding the flow chart of authority from God is crucial to being at the right place at the right time.

3—David was faithful to the assault.

 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. —1 Samuel 17:48 NIV

An assault is an offensive military attack. From David’s opening dialogue to his final defeat of the enemy, he carried out exactly what had to be done and what he said he would do. He was never in a defensive position in this account, because he stayed on the offense by faith.

Do you feel like most days you’re attacking life or it’s attacking you? Look deep into these three areas and see where there may be a chink in the armor. There is much to learn from David’s life, even when he was just a rookie in the field.

There is great opportunity and great blessing to be found when we are faithful to God’s assignment, authority, and assault.
