Here’s a very practical exercise to inventory and evaluate your spiritual life.
Lord, today I give you my:
Flesh
Temptations
Sin
Pride
Ego
Anxious Thoughts
Stress
Burdens
Bad Attitudes
Judgments
The things I do I know I should not
The things I know I should do that I do not
As you pray out each of these elements of your life, pay attention to any checks or senses you feel. Is there one or more of these that God wants to speak to you in, challenge you, convict you, forgive you, or free you? Honestly hand each one over but also hear Him speak in the process.
Now for the other side…
Lord, today I give you my:
Mind
Body
Spirit
Flesh
Actions
Thoughts
Attitudes
Motives
Ideas
Skills
Gifts
Time
Energy
Money
Marriage
Parenting
Relationships
Ministry
Identity
Goals
Dreams
Plans
Once again, as you pray out each of these elements of your life, also pay attention to any checks or senses you feel. Is there one or more of these that God wants to speak to you in, challenge you, convict you, or free you? Honestly hand each one over but also hear Him speak in the process.
On a regular basis, if we will dismantle our lives piece by piece before the Lord, He can help us turn over the pieces we no longer need to Him, give us new pieces to install, and change us by allowing Him to take over in an area we have been poorly managing.
Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. —Romans 12:2 MSG
